Human adenovirus infection as a potential cause of hepatitis in pediatrics

Introduction: A recent outbreak of disease worldwide about cases of acute hepatitis of unknown origin in pediatric patients has activated health alerts since in most countries an unusual increase in this disease has been reported, which has captured the attention, due to rapid progress towards acute liver failure. Objective: Describe the relationship between human adenovirus infection and hepatitis of unknown origin in pediatrics. Methodology: A bibliographic review was conducted on human adenovirus infection as a potential cause of hepatitis in pediatrics, for which several studies published in databases such as PubMed, SciELO, Scopus, and Web of Science were used. Results: The causality of this disease remains uncertain up to now, but several hypotheses have been proposed, among them the most accepted allegation that it could be a consequence of infection by human adenovirus and although it is well established that infections by this pathogen are common in children, the severity of clinical symptoms as the underlying cause is not fully justified. Conclusion: It will be a challenge to determine the role of adenovirus in acute pediatric hepatitis, since understanding its pathophysiology will allow developing effective surveillance and treatment strategies that prevent exacerbation of the disease and liver transplantation. Meanwhile, it is suggested to consider adenovirus as the differential diagnosis of acute non-A-E hepatitis.

Comparative study between metacognitive strategies and their effect on logical reasoning in pedagogy students

Introduction: Metacognitive learning strategies become a key element that allows the student to orient himself in the information available through his organization, through which he develops mathematical logical reasoning abilities. Objective: to analyze the way in which metacognitive strategies contribute to logical reasoning and mathematical problem solving in students of the Mathematics and Physics Pedagogy Career at the Luis Vargas Torres de Esmeraldas Technical University. Methodology: paradigm centered on positivism, involving a quantitative, analytical, rationalist, scientific and technological systematic approach; applying as technique the survey to forty students belonging to the university mentioned above. Results: 38% of the students stated that they rarely imagine the problem to decide how to solve it, evidencing the mechanical learning they have in reference to solving mathematical problems. Conclusion: metacognitive strategies significantly influence logical reasoning, therefore, in solving mathematical problems, a teaching should be proposed in which didactic strategies and various methodologies related to metacognitive strategies are used that will allow students to control and monitor the use of their cognitive resources, resulting from planning, verification, monitoring, review and evaluation of their cognitive achievements.

New prospects in oncology: chimeric antigen receptor T-cell immunotherapy in hematological malignancies

Introduction: Cancer is a very frequent pathology globally, among the most complicated types are neoplasms of hematological origin. The established treatments for them revolve around chemotherapy or hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, however, it has been shown that these are not effective in all patients, in addition to a high percentage of relapses after their use. Objective: To describe the characteristics of chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy as a new treatment alternative in hematological malignancies. Methodology: A bibliographic review was conducted on chimeric antigen receptor T-cell immunotherapy in hematological malignancies. In databases such as PubMed, Scopus and Dialnet. For the extraction of data, articles that expose the characteristics, usefulness, and new advances of CAR T cell therapy in hematological malignancies were prioritized Results: Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell immunotherapy is evidenced as a promising option in patients with hematological malignancies, due to its high rate of effectiveness, positioning itself as a new therapeutic choice, providing a broader vision in the hematological field. It has been approved as a treatment for acute myeloid leukemia or B-cell lymphoma. Conclusion: The combination of this therapy together with other cytokine inhibitors would be an excellent choice in the future. Even though effective results have been obtained in different studies, it can also be shown that in some cases the participants presented adverse effects to CAR T cell immunotherapy, for which reason the mechanisms involved in complications continue to be studied in order to generate strategies that increase the effectiveness of treatment and reduce complications

Acute lung damage in the lung parenchyma associated with traditional cigarette consumption vs. electronic cigarette

Introduction: Smoking is the main individual cause of preventable deaths in the world, so currently, due to the damage associated with tobacco, new alternatives to traditional cigarettes have been incorporated, such as electronic cigarettes; however, due to the consumption of these, there are new reports about the syndrome of lung injury associated with the use of electronic cigarettes or vaping products (EVALI) so this review seeks to detail which are these injuries that occur and compare them with the injuries of traditional cigarette consumption. Objective: The objective of the present investigation has been to carry out a review of the bibliography about the pathological characteristics that can be presented by the consumption of these devices. Methodology: A narrative bibliographic review was carried out about acute lung damage in the lung parenchyma associated with traditional cigarette consumption vs. electronic cigarette performing a search in different databases such as pubmed, scopus, elsevier. Development: It is thought that vitamin E acetate may be one of the substances found in electronic cigarette liquid that has the greatest association with EVALI; in turn, the sweeteners and flavorings used in these preparations increase the probability that people try or continue to use e-cigarette products facilitating the use of nicotine in these devices by masking the aversive properties of nicotine. Regarding the acute lesions found by traditional cigarettes, acute eosinophilic pneumonia was detailed, which, when compared with the pathological findings caused by EVALI, similarities such as type II pneumocyte hyperplasia, increased amount of intra-alveolar fibrin, and eosinophilic infiltration were observed. Conclusion: Both electronic and traditional cigarettes can present acute pathologies, differentiating them into acute eosinophilic pneumonia and EVALI, so the switch to electronic cigarettes does not present any benefit for the consumer. Levels of depression and anxiety and their relationship with the academic performance of university students in health. Systematic review

Introduction. The present systematic review is associated with the levels of depression, anxiety and its relationship with the academic performance of university students in the health area. Objective. The main objective of this research is focused on determining the levels of depression, anxiety and their relationship with the academic performance of university students in the health area from a systematic review. Methodology. It is a study of secondary origin of a systematic type without meta-analysis in which PRISMA-type methodology was used to search the literature. For the development of the systematic review, the following scientific databases were selected: Scielo, Pubmed, Redalyc and Proquest. The search strategies focused on the identification of MeSH terms, which correspond to: "anxiety", "depression", "Academic Performance" and "Health students". Results. Among the main results obtained from the search, a total of 9 studies were identified in the Scielo database, 725 in the Pubmed database, 6276 in the Redalyc database, and 7241 in Proquest. Finally, it was established that the included studies correspond to cross-sectional, descriptive, and correlational studies, with a total of 9266 students from the various branches of health. Conclusion. The results obtained allowed us to establish that there is a direct relationship between the level of stress and/or depression and the low performance of the students. However, it is necessary to continue conducting research to investigate other intervening variables that may or may not have a direct correlation with the academic performance of students in health-related careers.
