Importance of the conservation, restoration and classification of physical archives. Peasant Social Security Case of Manabí 2020

Abstract

Introduction: the conservation and restoration of documents is a science that has been carried out as a product of academic exercises, since the late nineteenth century, and then established as a science in the seventies in the twentieth century.   Objectives: this paper aims to show the importance of the information generated by the different units of the Peasant Social Security of Manabí, through a proposal of guidelines for the preservation and conservation of the documents housed in the archive of this organization.  Methodology:  the methodology applied in this research is exploratory, using the intentional survey in a random manner to the personnel working in the Peasant Social Security of Manabí, including the person in charge of the archive.  Results: the results of the survey addressed to these personnel, focused on the intention of evaluating both the state of preservation of the physical space and the documents that make up the institution and the knowledge, skills, and abilities in archival issues of the personnel working in its archive.  Conclusions: it can be identified that the technical rule of archiving is not applied, so the shortcomings in the central archive are evident.  Area of specialization or study: Library and Information Science
