Mitral insufficiency: Clinical case
Main Article Content
Abstract
Introduction: Mitral insufficiency is a frequent disease. The main causes are classified as degenerative and ischemic, being prevalent in developed countries; or rheumatic in underdeveloped countries. Data show that within an adult population this disease is prevalent in people over 50 years of age. The prevalence of mitral insufficiency does not differ markedly between sexes, but studies indicate that it increases considerably with age. Objective: to determine the management and therapeutics of mitral insufficiency in a clinical case in order to establish novel and instructive elements of the disease. Methodology: descriptive, retrospective clinical case study. The technique used for the collection of the information of the case will be through the review of clinical history and for the description of the pathology, the collection of articles extracted from recognized databases such as: Scopus, PorQuest, Pubmed, web of science, lilacs will be carried out. Results: A 59-year-old man with chronic non-dilated ischemic heart disease and preserved systolic function. The patient's electrocardiogram showed a normal sinus rhythm with a heart rate of 67 beats per minute, a PR interval of 140 ms, a QRS complex of 90 ms, and a QT interval of 360 ms, with an inferior face ZEI. Conclusion: In the case of the 59-year-old man with a history of chronic ischemic heart disease and coronary artery disease, the presence of mitral insufficiency could add additional complexity to his clinical management. Although mitral insufficiency is not directly mentioned in the patient's specific case, it is important to recognize how multiple cardiac pathologies can coexist and how each can influence the overall management of the patient. General area of study: medicine. Specific area of study: cardiology. Type of study: clinical cases.
