Analysis of the construction quality in earthen houses, two case studies within the city of Riobamba

Abstract

Introduction: The constructive quality has had a great interest worldwide trying to improve the approach of construction, however, referring to vernacular houses there is little interest derived from the lack of information and regulatory standards. Objective: to achieve the constructive quality of houses on land determining their range of vulnerability, in two case studies within the city of Riobamba. Methodology: the present research proposes an analytical study of the constructive quality of houses on land to determine their range of vulnerability of two case studies within the city of Riobamba, the applied methodology will resort to a non-experimental design in a transversal way, of quantitative and qualitative character, with an explanatory scope where it is intended to facilitate the understanding of the criteria described. There will be instruments such as interviews, architectural and photographic surveys obtained in-situ from two case studies that help the complete understanding of the project. Results: the research process presents as a result the built reality and constructive quality that shows two case studies, defining that quality conditions are possible if they are accompanied by technical research, public policies and management models that guarantee optimal conservation prioritizing non-monumental residential homes that tend to have a very important value in the conception of a sustainable densified city.  Conclusions: pointing out the cases studied, two different scenarios were found around the way of acting of their constructive conditions, conditioned first by the link and interest of their owners and second by the public policies of conservation and restoration of patrimonial real estate.
