Abstract

Industry 4.0 of the 21st century needs Engineering graduates with mastery of the technical skills of the profession, in addition, with the ability to apply the soft (generic) skills that society demands. There are different definitions of competencies and their types, however, whatever the definition or classification is taken, the need for the development of competencies is evidenced to respond to current social demands from innovation, sustainability and sustainability. For this, documentary-bibliographic research is carried out, in order to specifically study the competencies that are developed in the practice of engineering in the 4.0 revolution. Among the most important technical competencies, the importance of developing the ability to generate solutions that meet specific needs is established, considering public health, safety, well-being, global, cultural, social, environmental and economic factors for which a change is required. in engineering training so that it is based on an innovative teaching, adequate and adapted to new technologies.
