Abstract

Introduction: Transformational leadership has emerged as a promising approach to address the challenges of managing sustainable development projects at the local level. Objective: This research aimed to describe the influence of this leadership style on the management of projects implemented by the Decentralized Autonomous Government of the Tomebamba Parish, Azuay Province, Ecuador. Methodology: Through a mixed research approach, the key factors of transformational leadership and their impact on different stages of project management, from planning to evaluation, were analyzed. Results: The findings revealed that while personalized attention and fostering a sense of belonging were valued during execution, it is necessary to strengthen the promotion of creative collaboration, critical thinking in evaluation, and the integration of environmental considerations. The evaluation of projects demonstrated a commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), but there was a need to deepen the mitigation of ecological impacts. Conclusion: In conclusion, transformational leadership positively influences the management of sustainable development projects, but it is necessary to strengthen certain dimensions to maximize its impact and contribute to achieving the SDGs in the Tomebamba Parish and similar territories.
