Abstract

Introduction: due to the situation experienced by COVID 19, and the fact that initial education students struggle with their fine motor skills, which could also suggest other problems with their visuomotor coordination, digital gripper grip, agility and precision in their movements; The importance of this research is that fine motor skills are a key component of general cognitive development.  Objective: to determine the importance of recreational activities and the development of fine motor skills in 4-year-old initial education students in the Santa Rosa Educational Unit. Methodology: quantitative, quasi-experimental approach and a descriptive, correlative design with a sample size of twenty-four students in the control group and twenty-five students in the experimental group, to determine whether parametric tests are performed or not, normality tests were applied. Results: a nonparametric test was performed to verify the hypothesis. The most striking findings that stood out in the study were the following: for the experimental group in the pretest, a mean of 2.28 on a scale of five meant "started", and for the experimental group in the posttest, a mean of 4.84 meant "acquired". Conclusion: the technique used during the three-week intervention produced positive results.
